Ultimo giorno di Giochi Nazionali Special Olympics: “Grazie per averci mostrato il valore dell’inclusione”
Montecatini Terme 9 giugno 2018 – Termina oggi la XXXIV edizione dei Giochi Nazionali Estivi Special Olympics che, tra Montecatini Terme e la Valdinievole, dal 4 giugno scorso, ha visto coinvolti 3000 atleti impegnati in 18 discipline sportive: atletica leggera, badminton, bocce, bowling, calcio a 5, canottaggio, dragon boat, equitazione, ginnastica artistica e ritmica, indoor rowing, golf, nuoto, pallacanestro, pallavolo unificata, rugby, tennis e tennis tavolo.
Tale evento, il più grande Nazionale Special Olympics di sempre per numero di atleti coinvolti e per gli sport in gara, nell’anno del 50esimo anniversario del Movimento nel mondo, lascia un segno indelebile sul territorio, ora ancor più ricco e pronto ad accogliere ed includere sempre le persone con disabilità intellettive.
La Festa di Chiusura, svoltasi ieri sera presso il Villaggio Olimpico presso il Parco delle Terme Excelsior, ha siglato la fine del grande evento sportivo con la consegna della bandiera di Special Olympics al Vicepresidente di Special Olympics Italia, Alessandro Palazzotti. Il prossimo anno, nel 2019, la stagione estiva sarà caratterizzata dai “Play the Games”, un lungo appuntamento con lo sport con l’organizzazione deì Giochi Interregionali di alto livello, in tutta Italia. Una fase successiva all’appuntamento più atteso ed importante dell’anno: i Giochi Mondiali Estivi in programma dal 14 al 21 marzo ad Abu Dhabi e a cui parteciperà una delegazione italiana composta da 115 atleti.
Questa mattina si svolgono ancora le ultime gare e premiazioni. Non si mancherà di onorare anche l’ultimo atleta che ha tagliato il traguardo purchè abbia profuso impegno e determinazione con “tutte le sue forze” così come recita il Giuramento dell’atleta Special Olympics. La filosofia del Movimento offre infatti una prospettiva diversa da cui guardare allo sport che si spoglia dell’agonismo più puro per abbracciare l’opportunità, aperta a tutti, di gareggiare nelle adeguate condizioni per vincere la sfida più importante, quella verso se stessi. L’atleta Special Olympics è sempre messo nella condizione ideale per migliorare e per aumentare la propria autostima, la propria autonomia, ma non solo. Special Olympics utilizza lo sport unificato per fare cultura: credendo fortemente nel potere di un pallone gettato in mezzo al campo, mette insieme, nella stessa squadra, atleti con e senza disabilità intellettiva. A giovarne, alla fine della partita, sono entrambi, l’atleta Special Olympics e l’atleta partner, cosiddetto normodotato, che diverrà estraneo, d’ora in poi, ad ogni stereotipo e pregiudizio nei confronti delle persone con disabilità intellettiva. In quasi tutte le discipline proposte nei Giochi Nazionali Special Olympics sono previste gare di sport unificato.
Parallelamente alle gare si sono svolti i programmi sportivi non competitivi dello YAP (Young Athletes Program), programma innovativo di gioco e attività motoria per bambini fino agli 8 anni d’età e MATP (Motor Activity Training Program) programma di allenamento studiato per bambini ed adulti con disabilità intellettive gravi e gravissime e disabilità fisiche e/o sensoriali con associata una disabilità intellettiva. Durante i Giochi gli atleti hanno inoltre avuto la possibilità di sottoporsi ad esami medici gratuiti nell’ambito del Programma Salute promosso da Special Olympics che vede l’attuazione di specifici protocolli di accoglienza, prevenzione e diagnosi per persone con disabilità intellettiva ed il coinvolgimento di centinaia di volontari clinici.
Ne esce dunque un territorio ampiamente sensibilizzato al tema della disabilità intellettiva nello sport. Ciò era già emerso in occasione del Torch Run che, prima di giungere all’ippodromo SNAI Sesana per accendere il tripode in Cerimonia di Apertura, ha effettuato un percorso che ha coinvolto 18 Comuni. La risposta in termini di partecipazione è stata straordinaria e si può racchiudere nel commento di Giuseppe Bellandi, Sindaco di Montecatini Terme:”Non abbiamo respirato il solito clima della manifestazione sportiva o dei grandi eventi a cui siamo abituati. Quello dei Giochi Special Olympics è stato un clima di profonda gioia nel vedere l’impegno dei volontari, di questi atleti che si cimentano a fare cose che sembrerebbero impossibili. Questo è il vero messaggio, di profonda gioia. Non ci siamo sentiti solamente partecipi a questa manifestazione, ne usciamo più compatti e comprensivi, pronti ad includere, sempre e chiunque. Grazie atleti Special Olympics”.
