GOBBI jewels 1842
In 1842 Raimondo Gobbi, an enthusiastic watchmaker, opened his first workshop under the Portico del Collegio San Carlo in Modena. The skill and expertise he offered his customers was so impressive that just ten years later, in 1852, the Grand Duke granted him the title of “Watchmaker to the Royal Court”.
At the time, Gobbi’s main trade and services focused exclusively on pocket timepieces and pendant watches.
His youngest son, Giuseppe, then brought his technical expertise to the company, helping it grow. In 1896 young Gobbi moved to Milan where he opened a workshop on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, a business which today is honoured with its designation as an historical boutique.
At that time, Raimondo’s granddaughter married Luigi Pozzolini, an enterprising representative of watch-making brands who took the reins and began to manage the family business.
Great-grandsons Aldo and Gastone joined the company in the early 1930s, ushering in its definitive success and helping Gobbi 1842 become the leader of the Swiss watch-making trade in Italy. Under their guidance, the company expanded to include gold-smithing and jewellery production, turning the enterprise into what it is today. Unfortunately, the first shop was destroyed during WWII, but, strengthened by history and an unwavering dedication to quality, the current boutique was opened on 4 September 1949. Today it continues to impress with the original décor, and a technical workshop on the upper floor.
The company is currently led by Luca Pozzolini Gobbi (Gastone’s son) and his daughter Serena.
Customers and haute watch-making enthusiasts have, for 175 years, recognised Gobbi as a symbol and guarantee of excellence and quality both before and after purchase.
Like any respected precision instrument, no matter the model or movement, timepieces and fine jewellery also require attentive care and periodic maintenance in order to last over the years.
Service doesn’t end the moment a piece is sold, but continues afterwards with effective post-sales assistance provided directly in the laboratory above the boutique.
“We can proudly say that today we are an important point of reference for our Milanese and international clientele, a small, exclusive parlour where our guests can choose the object their heart desires”, stated Serena Pozzolini Gobbi. “We want to advance our philosophy and promote our rich traditions, just as we’ve done up to today, whilst remaining true to the principle of never sacrificing quality for the ephemeral and always ensuring the utmost professionalism and expertise. We are convinced that behind each precious timepiece there are not only perfect mechanisms, but also service that is every bit as precise and punctual.”
“Our passion for watches” continued Ms. Pozzolini Gobbi, CEO of the family business, “has of course influenced our personal vision when creating this line of jewellery. There is a very subtle union between body and soul, between thought and reason, between creativity and creation. In the spiral, we’ve found the perfect symbol to represent the DNA of our company and our centuries-old traditions.”
The capsule collection of 20 pieces – including necklaces, rings, earrings and pendants – features the soft shape and sinuous lines of a spiral. It’s a luxuriously chic and minimalistic symbol which unites the principle of a clock’s continuous movement with the classical ideal of immortality.
