INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2019
The first outpost of the internationally renowned Hong Kong brand, Duddell’s in the heart of London Bridge will be celebrating women in the wine industry this International Women’s Day with their specially designed #WINEISAGIRL menu of ten wines produced solely by women and created by their sommelier, Izabela Pi.
Unique in their story but united in their message, each wine on the menu includes a short sentence to explain the wine’s purpose or producer’s philosophy. From Filipa Pato who aims to create authentic wines without make-up, to Stéphanie Berecz who was the first woman awarded the title ‘Winemaker of the Winemakers’ in Hungary, the faces behind the carefully selected wines pay tribute to the wine industry’s community of powerful females.
“The title of the selection #WINEISAGIRL is maybe a little bit sweet and controversial,” says Izabela, “However I wanted to show that women are a strong and growing part of the wine industry, being influential as consumers and producers.”
Paired perfectly with the restaurant’s famed contemporary Cantonese cuisine, experience a glass or two off #WINEISAGIRL this International Women’s Day and beyond at Duddell’s show-stopping emerald green bar in the stunning surroundings of the historic Grade II-listed St. Thomas Church. From the Portuguese white, Vinho Branco to the Koshu from Japan or the red Beck Ink from Austria and Monthélie from France, Izabella’s extensive list is sourced from vineyards around the world to offer a unique opportunity to sample the flavours of Europe, Australia, and Asia right in the heart of London Bridge.
Neptune, the modern seafood-focused neighbourhood restaurant in Bloomsbury from Brett Redman and Margaret Crow, has been leading the way in their support for women in the wine industry with their carefully selected list of low-intervention organic natural wines, curated by their highly skilled wine consultant Isabelle Legeron MW.
As France’s only female Master of Wine, and one of only 354 MWs worldwide, Isabelle is internationally recognised. In 2012 she created RAW WINE, which has grown to become the world’s largest community of low-intervention organic, biodynamic and natural wine producers.
With Neptune and its nautical influence in mind, Isabelle maintains an ever-growing list for the restaurant with seaside undercurrent. Whether it’s a bottle grown in the salty, iodine-filled air of the Tasman Sea, the Pacific Ocean or the Aegean, or from vines rooted on ancient sea-beds, each glass has received Neptune’s blessing. From Sparkling, to Rose, Orange, White and Red, the restaurant’s extensive list brings together the unique flavours of Europe and beyond, leaving guests truly spoilt for choice.
Best experienced in full Neptune style, sample Isabelle’s carefully selected wines at the restaurant’s destination bar. Paired perfectly with a platter of oysters or bar snacks, enjoy a glass or two against the backdrop of the restaurant’s show-stopping centrepiece, the pewter-topped Oyster Bar in the picturesque Grade II-listed dining room, complete with vintage shell lamps and enveloping sepia-tinted interiors.
