Gold, a new neighbourhood restaurant and late-night bar to open this May on Portobello Road, Notting Hill

Bormio: la capitale dello sci alpino si prepara per la Coppa del Mondo e i Giochi Olimpici e Paralimpici del 2026

Gold, a neighbourhood modern European restaurant and late night bar, is set to open this May on the site of the renowned Portobello Gold public house in the heart of Portobello, Notting Hill.

Inspired by the area’s unique cultural mix of artists, designers and musicians, Gold’s approach to dining will reflect the discerning, cosmopolitan spirit of contemporary west London. The restaurant will be spearheaded by a team of local industry all-stars, including Head Chef Theo Hill (The River Café) and Front of House team Alex Ghalleb (Pizza East) and Arez Akgundogdu (Soho House). The menu will exude colour, taste and modern freshness, with a focus on produce-led, minimal process cooking. Dishes will be cooked in wood ovens or over open flame and served to share. Signature dishes will include:

Wood roasted whole sea bream, wild oregano, capers

Burrata, charred pears, Parma ham, radicchio, balsamic

Wood roasted cauliflower, toasted buckwheat, cumin, yoghurt, coriander

Nettle ravioli, sheep’s ricotta, sorrel

The modern bohemian interiors, from local architect and design duo Felix and Valerie von Bechtolsheim, will draw on Portobello’s once-thriving industrial past to create a restaurant and bar that is both informal and open. The stripped back aesthetic exposes the original shell of the building for a raw look, while the contrasting industrial-luxe details, contemporary furniture, aged metals and vast indoor trees soften the space creating a warm, welcoming environment.

Set over 4 floors, guests will be greeted on the ground floor by a bar and open-kitchen area, leading out into a lush garden room. With a retractable roof and landscaped with mature trees, the garden room offers a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of Portobello Road. The first floor will house a further lounge and dining area and the second floor will be taken up by a private party room.

Acknowledging Notting Hill’s long and illustrious reputation as a haven for artists such as David Hockney and Lucien Freud, internationally renowned Portuguese artist Vhils has been commissioned to create a series of show-stopping works, including one across the exterior of the building. The spectacular pavement-to-roof assignment will be the first time that the critically acclaimed artist has made a work – in situ – in London.
