Il Gufo : Spring Summer 2020 Collection
The Il Gufo SS20 collection originates from two ideas: a dichotomy between urban and natural elements. Accompanied along a noisy and chaotic urban route that leads us into a secret garden, we enter a dimension of dreams and games, slipping into a magical, almost enchanted atmosphere.JThe show begins with the overwhelming din of a city and a gang of percussionists, who take to the stage with the first group of children wearing urban activewear, carrying skateboards, sporting headphones to listen to their favourite music, chewing gum and bouncing with energy. Technical leggings in Sensitive® Fabrics with logo transferred taping, skirt with large polka-dot prints, T-shirt with appliquéd birds and nylon taffeta jacket for the girl; zipped hooded sweatshirt with a start icon on the back, T-shirt with a cheeky owl tattoo print and panelled jersey bermuda on a black base with rubber tipped drawstrings for the boy.
Metropolitan symbolism is the leitmotiv of the first part of the collection, interpreted through prints with shiny details for Il Gufo’s urban side, or watercolours, like the city skyline or skaters, on T-shirts for boys. Fabric overlays create technical-romantic and sporty-rap effects: tulle skirt paired with technical cycling short for the girl; light sleeveless zipped top in eco-padding with an unexpected pouch pocket on the back and hooded sweatshirt with metropolitan map prints for the boy. The colours are strong and juxtaposed to maximise visual impact: black matched with white or yellow, as well as blue, green, orange and bright, powerful pinks.
This urban adventure ends with a symbolic step through the door that leads to the secret garden, where the children regain direct contact with nature and its inhabitants, losing track of the noise of contemporary life by returning to their roots. Bleached stretch denim dresses with floral appliqué for girls; linen jackets over wide vertical striped bermuda shorts for boys. Tiny insects land on the light tulle of the dresses, preciously embroidered by hand. Prints become softer in colour and shape, as little rabbits and watercolour butterflies peek out. The suggestion of a flower-filled meadow is printed on T-shirts in cotton voile and poplin dresses, fabrics mixed and embellished by a play of ruching. Fabrics such as broderie anglaise and lace create romantic dresses for girls who love to dream. The timeless seersucker appears both in girls’ garments and in jackets and trousers for boys, striped or gingham.
The colour palette is faithful to the tones of nature and explores the entire range of browns and blues, in harmony with yellows and pinks from pastel to sorbet, even creating tenuous and intangible colour transparencies, such as the sky blue nylon ripstop parka. Or, at its most elegant, in a pale sorbet pink for the tulle of the empire cut dress for girls, with micro hand-embroidered insects, for a look that is ethereal and refined.
“This season more than ever we wanted to reassert our balanced and polite DNA, marking its character through the introduction of garments with ‘opposite’ details that are undoubtedly more modern, with a ‘rougher’ spirit and a vaguely rebellious attitude”, says CEO Alessandra Chiavelli.
